Journal Entry 6

1. The confidentiality code was violated with the because the teacher was sharing her child's personal information with staff, sharing the information in a public place and including her negative opinion.

2. The child's confidentiality was violated because the teacher shared his personal information with a n other staff member on the playground.

3. There should never be a discussion between directors or anyone else concerning a child's disability. If the mother has not pre-authorized discussion, with written consent.

4. The parent should be included in all meetings, especially those including her child.

5. I think the teacher should have simply made the class aware that we are going to have a new classmate and explained that they should be very nice and make him feel welcome.

6. The teacher should have assisted Eric with his transition to make him feel welcome. She should have walked out to the playground with him to show him all of the different ways he could play. She should have also introduced him to the children playing in a specific area so that he was comfortable playing amongst the other children.

7. I feel that the teachers conversation in the restaurant was very unprofessional and unacceptable. I think further action should have been taken by her employer.

8. I would feel the same if the conversation happened it the staff lounge. The child's personal/medical information should never be discussed. It is simply not acceptable.

9. As the director, I would apologize on behalf of my company and my staff. I would make her aware that this is not the way my facility is operated and definitely speak to the child about his feelings and how happy I am to have him.

10. I don't think a mother should leave her child anywhere that doesn't feel safe or make her or her child uncomfortable. If she is willing to forgive and is understanding, then it's ok.

11. I would try not to move Eric again because he is already experiencing enough change in life and to continuosly drag him back and forth makes matters worse. It's simply not healthy for his growth and could cause stress and even anger issues.
